So I recently learned that in the modeling industry, the plus sized faction starts at a size 6. Insane, right? Interestingly enough, the average American woman is a size 14. It seems like we'd never know this fact with the media's unrealistic depiction of women. Coming from the South, being a thick woman with curves is not only accepted, it's more popular...but I digress.
Here is a preview from V Magazine's 2010 'Plus Size' issue, entitled "One Size Fits All". The pictorial features plus sized model Crystal Renn looking absolutely bomb; she transcends the standard sized model (pictured on the left) in these shots.
Being kicked off of Lady Gaga's mega-tour for punching a fan & subsequently falsely arrested, Kid Cudi had a great deal of negative press last week. Here is a clip I was sent of the rapper addressing his recent personal dilemmas at his House of Blues concert in South Carolina this week (if you can't see the video, click HERE):
Kid Cudi essentially says that he's not the troublemaker that the media & his detractors are attempting to make him, he's merely an artist. He also addresses the perils of the music industry, in the style of his mentor Kanye's rants (click HERE to see Kanye in action last week)... I was unable to attend the show due my schedule but I definitely regret missing Cudi perform, as I heard the show was great from friends that attended.
In related Cudi news, Complex Magazine named his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of the Day the best album of 2009. Kudos to him for such an honor! His album is definitely in my top 10 for 2009 as well. Check out more performances from Cudi's show, as well as new music from his upcoming album, Cudder, below.
2009 has been a wonderful year for Lady Gaga, despite the fact that she's been the subject of a myriad of offensive accusations & rumors (who can forget all the fuss over her possibly being a hermaphrodite?). Equally famous for her talent as for her innovative fashion sense, Gaga is being hailed by many as the hottest artist of 2009...& with 8 million records sold, I'm sure she's not one to debate that assertion.
Though Lady Gaga is no stranger to controversy, the most recent media storm involving the thriving artist is a bit ridiculous: Kansas-based, anti-homosexual reverend, Fred Phelps, is coming out of the woodwork & stirring up controversy with his newest protest & contention that "God Hates Lady Gaga". Here is the official press release:
Fortunately, Gaga has not responded to this ignorance & I hope that she does not go public at all with her thoughts on this manner. I feel that the only thing that should be protested is Reverend Phelp's church.
Here's a photo from Teyana Taylor's forthcoming shoot with Kontrol Magazine. I see she's still killing the competition with these avant-garde magazine spreads! The multitalented socialite will grace the magazine's fashion issue in January. Fans can also expect to see Teyana's acting debut next year in Stomp the Yard 2.
Video vixen, Rosa Acosta's, full pictorial from the relaunch of King was also recently released online. She looks great --- I think I just may use her pictures as motivation to get my butt in the gym next year =)...To check out all the flix, click HERE.
I'm not sure if a hot beat & a verse from Wayne are enough for "All 4 U" to be a hit. Though I'm enthralled that Missy is returning to the music scene (as opposed to ghost-writing & production), I can't say that I love this single...
I loved Nicole's debut solo effort, Her Name is Nicole, despite the fact it was a commercial failure. Though I hate that The Pussycat Dolls have officially split, I adore Nicole's swagger & vocals. Her latest single with Pharrell is smooth & she sounds great. I hope to hear more from the talented singer in 2010.
Though his mixtape was supposed to drop on Christmas Day, Lupe's team has instead given his fans a single from the rapper's upcoming album, We Are Lasers. "I'm Beaming", produced by the Neptunes, is pretty dope.
Here's the Spike Lee directed video for "This Is It", the lead single from Michael Jackson's soundtrack of the same name. The clip entails footage from Michael's life as well as from his hometown of Gary, Indiana. Love this song & this video; wonderful homage to the King of Pop. May he rest in peace.
Global Grind recently composed a list of 2009's sexiest magazine spreads. This list included the likes of Megan Fox (Rolling Stone), Rihanna (GQ), & Katy Perry (Complex). While I wholeheartedly agree with the choices selected, I believe the folks at GG compiled a list too soon & may have even left out a few!
The fashion, the drama, the fun --- the sex! I believe I've seen the first Sex & The City Movie about 30 times & I'm quite excited about the sequel! --- Also nice to hear "Empire State of Mind" used as the movie's theme song.
Jaden Smith (son of actor Will Smith) brought me to tears in Pursuit of Happyness & I'm sure the talented, young actor will do the same in the remake of this classic. My little brother & I are super excited to go see it in 2010!
I greatly appreciate your patience during my period of re-construction. I'd also like to thank you all for all the support, kind words, & encouraging emails. Hope you like the new look! Looking forward to great things in 2010!
During the summer of 2007 I would blast “Celebrity Chick” in my ride wherever I went. The song, which featured Ludacris, Chingy, Steph Jones & Small World, was the standout single from Disturbing The Peace’s compilation album,Strength in Numbers. When I heard it, I was immediately intrigued by Small World’s North Carolina acknowledgment on the track… & I’ve been a supporter of the gifted rapper ever since.
Fortunately, I had the opportunity to sit down and converse with Small World this past weekend about his burgeoning career. I was pleasantly surprised by his wittiness & level of humility. It was a fun occasion gaining insight into the talented rapper’s life, as he divulged about celebrity chicks, his affiliation with Ludacris & why 2010 will be a great year.
JB: I’ve been a fan of yours since I heard your verse on “Celebrity Chick” back in 2007, in which you mention celebrity females such as Trina, Keyshia Cole & Jessica Alba. Can you tell me about your ideal woman?
SW: My ideal woman…That’s something I’ve been trying to figure out all my life (laughs)! I’d say she has to be down to earth, family oriented & God-fearing – that’s first!
JB: That’s definitely important! But who’s your favorite “celebrity chick” now?
SW: My favorite celebrity chick? I would probably say, though she isn’t really a “celebrity”… but just based on the access that we’ve had to her life… Tahiry. I love her persona & her regularness.
It goes down tomorrow night on the Bad Girls Club! This preview for the upcoming episode features Portia attacking Natalie after she makes a snide comment about Portia's daughter. The madness ensues tomorrow night on Oxygen at 10 PM.
Over the weekend, Jay Z & Rihanna performed hit singles, "Run This Town" & "Wait is Ova" for a crowd in Times Square in lieu of Carson Daly's New Years Eve Special. Rihanna definitely proves she is hot by rocking a bustier under a fur coat in the snow! Catch the pre-recorded performances on NBC, December 31st at 10 PM.
To say that I'm glad Usher is back on the R&B scene is an understatement. The buzz singles that he's been releasing recently are different from anything that we've heard from him in the past, as they have edgier lyrics & a raunchier vibe. "Little Freak" with Nicki Minaj goes all out with lyrics about threesomes, lesbians & signing "tig ol bitties". The Polow Da Don produced track is definitely a hit in-the-making.
Tyrese recently re-released "Put Up With Me"via Twitter . Though this song doesn't necessarily do it for me, I can appreciate the lyrics. I'm rooting for him to make a sound return to the R&B scene; I've always been a fan of his vocals!
"Marching On" is a sweet ballad from Jamie Foxx & Tank...Oh how I love when Jamie Foxx displays his ability to truly sang, as opposed to the autotune mess. Looking forward to his next album in 2010.
We all know that she is the hardest working woman in show business, but now Beyonce is expanding her multi-million dollar empire with a fragrance line entitled, Beyonce Heat. The perfume is said to be a combination of "red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli & blush peach." However, with a slogan like 'Catch the Fever', you can only imagine how it might smell =p
In 2010, Beyonce Heat will be available in major retailers with a $39 price tag . Check out the preview for the forthcoming fragrance below:
Also, click HERE to listen to Beyonce's sultry, reworked version of "Fever" to commemorate the perfume's release.
Lady Gaga was one of few artists asked to perform for the Queen of England on December 7th. Decked in a red latex outfit, Gaga sang "Speechless" while suspended in the air. I believe the only other female artist that can compete with her in terms of vocal ability, stage presence & finesse is Beyonce. Quote me =p
Roc Nation artist & North Carolina native, J. Cole, recently participated in a basketball tournament in Los Angeles sponsored by a local radio station. Looks like he's a talented basketball player in addition to his skills on the mic!
Congratulations to Susan Boyle, who still reigns supreme at #1 on the Billboard charts. Her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, holds the top spot for the third week in a row; selling another 582,000 copies. This means that Boyle has beaten out mega-stars Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown Timbaland & Gucci Mane for the top spot. Apparently, her album is expected to remain at the #1 spot next week, despite the release of Robin Thicke & Alicia Keys' latest efforts... This also means that the singer has the highest selling album of 2009.
I swear Natalie Nunn (Bad Girls Club) is milking every second of her fifteen minutes of fame! Natalie first made headlines when she fueled rumors that she was dating Chris Brown (though he vehemently denied it later). Recently, she instigated a Twitter dispute with Vanessa Simmons (click HERE for the full altercation). Fortunately for us, Honey Magazine was able to have a chat with the outspoken reality starlet about the entire fiasco. Check it out below (if you can't see the video, click HERE):
"I went in!"
She's so extra! Vanessa Simmons dealt with Natalie's immaturity with class... which is way better than I would have. If you haven't been tuned in to The Bad Girls Club on Tuesday nights at 10, you're truly missing some messy entertainment.
Amber Rose's highly anticipated fashion pictorial is featured in the relaunch of Vibe. Loving how classy & fashion forward she looks in this shoot. The newest issue of Vibe is in stores now.
The ladies of The View recently dissected Rihanna's risque photos in the latest issue of GQ Magazine. While some argued that the photos were too provocative, others stated that the spread will be helpful in changing the public's perception of her as a battered woman.
I think that Rihanna looks great & that it's okay to pose like this while you're young. Definitely can't blame her for wanting to move on from the situation & get on with her life. Check out the full spread HERE.
After recently having a discussion about Bad Boy artists with a close friend, Cassie was one of few artists acknowledged as a loyal member of the infamous record label. While my friend argued that Cassie has achieved a noteworthy amount of success since being signed, I argued that any success or publicity that the former model has achieved is due to her relationship with Diddy.
Ironically, her new single (released online last week) entitled, "What She Don't Know", entails lyrics that imply an illicit affair. Cassie sings:
“So when they see us together, he says I’m just a friend, But me and him know what up, so we know we must pretend. So when she comes up to you, saying that she knows about what we do, I’ma tell her, What she don’t know wont hurt her. So then she goes through your phone, Give me a secret name so she wont know.”
With all the paparazzi shots of her & Diddy together, the rumors & Chris Brown's slip-up regarding their relationship (click HERE), these lyrics are definitely suspect. Listen to the song below:
Shameful. Cassie's album, Electro Love, is due in 2010.
Having previewed Robin Thicke's forthcoming album Sex Therapy (in stores tomorrow) last week, I can almost guarantee that fans will love it as much as I did. The diverse album features collaborations with Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Kid Cudi, The Game, Estelle & Snoop Dogg... I honestly haven't heard an R&B album of this caliber in a very long time. Click HERE to listen to Sex Therapy in full.
I know I've been grooving to "Every Girl" & "Bedrock" for the past few months, thus I'm looking forward to this album's release. Click HERE for a preview of Young Money's upcoming album, We Are Young Money (December 21).
Here is a preview for Rihanna's forthcoming video for "Hard", featuring Young Jeezy. I suppose the video's military theme portrays Rihanna's "hardness" =p. The full video premieres Thursday at 4 pm on MTV.
Wale & J.Cole recently headlined a concert at UNC-Chapel Hill in lieu of the Roc Nation college campus tour. Many of my friends were in attendance & I heard it was an excellent show!
As I'm always a fan of behind-the-scenes footage, this video of Gaga's Elle photoshoot is no exception. Her hair, makeup, & Alexander McQueen pumps are everything!
Diddy recently sat down for a candid interview with Playboy, in which he discussed his unsuccessful stint as a drug dealer. He says:
"Some of my friends were selling drugs... I remember them having all this jewelry and new BMWs. I was eating ramen noodles, stealing from the 7-Eleven to get some food. I thought, 'I need to get some money like y'all have.' So I go out on the block...and my man says, 'OK, I'm going to give you this. You wait there.
They'll come up to you.'I'm out there five minutes when three cop cars pull up and officers jump out and start chasing me. I ran and got away. We reconvene in the same place two hours later. This time it's dark, and all of a sudden a van pulls up. Cops jump out and start chasing me again. There's a helicopter overhead with a light following me through the woods.
... I turned unto a scared white Harvard (University) student. God was sending me signals.I told my friends, 'Thanks, y'all, but no thanks. This game is not for me.' ...I'm probably the shortest-duration drug dealer in history. That's why you never heard me talk about it in my rhymes." Hilarity. But can someone remind me of the last time Diddy rhymed?
In related news, 50 Cent talked Jay-Z (again) & Lil Mama in the latest issue of Esquire. On Jay Z:
“Jay-Z is as politically correct as some of the politicians. He’s safe. There’s points when you’re acquiring financing, you make adjustments, he’s made those adjustments. It’s his choice. For me, it’s not a necessity."
On Lil Mama's stage jumping:
“When you’re safe, people start walking on the stage because they feel safe with you. People don’t walk on the stage at my shows.” I suppose 50 Cent's current irrelevancy in the music industry is the reason he keeps going at Jay Z. Anyhow, read the full interview HERE.
I attempted to watch the two-hour season premiere of MTV's new show, Jersey Shore, last week & failed miserably. Coming from someone that watches reality television like a bad habit, this is the most uninteresting show that I've watched in a long time. The show's overall premise features eight Italian "Guidos" living, working & partying together on the Jersey Shore for the duration of the summer.
Not only is there nothing entertaining about this show but it also depicts Italians in a very stereotypical manner; to the point that their behavior is contrived. Evidently, the Jersey Shore tourism organization is upset over the show's content as well, stating that the show negatively represents the Jersey Shore area. Not to mention that there is only one or two attractive cast members in the house --- which only increases my level of disinterest.
Yesterday when the show became one of the trending topics of Twitter, I was confused as to why and how people could actually enjoy Jersey Shore. However, I saw a preview for next week's episode in which Snookie (the most annoying of the bunch) is punched in the face by a man in a bar & it explained why the show may have been trending. Check out the clip below:
Apparently, MTV will run an anti-violence PSA to combat any controversy over the clip. Will you be tuning in?
**Updated to Say: MTV will no longer be showing this clip of Snooki getting punched
Barbara Walters' annual "10 Most Fascinating People" special aired last night. The list entailed popular names such as Tyler Perry, Kate Gosselin & Lady Gaga, with Michelle Obama claiming the top spot.
My favorite interview was definitely with Lady Gaga, as it was quite interesting to watch her disclose information about her bi-sexual lifestyle. I wonder what her type is?
First Lady Michelle Obama also divuldged about her crazy year, her marriage & overall workout regimen. It's always a treat to hear her speak!
For the full list & a list of people that were left off, click HERE.
Kim & Khloe Kardashian recently appeared on Howard Stern to discuss their love lives & interracial dating in lieu of their Keeping Up with the Kardashians promotional tour. While Kim goes into detail about her sex tape with Ray-J, her sex life with Reggie Bush & why black men love her, Khloe talks about details of her pre-nuptial agreement & why she loves black men.
"Well we have big asses & black men love the big asses..."
I'm already fully aware of Howard Stern's ignorant comments on his show, therefore his close-mindedness regarding black culture doesn't bother me. However, Kim & Khloe's comments regarding black men are a bit degrading. I can't help but to think how Lamar Odom and Reggie Bush must feel to be constantly objectified in the media for dating members of the Kardashian family. I'm appalled that these women would even entertain half of these questions.
Jamie Foxx & Justin Timberlake came together for a winning collaboration on the Timberlake produced, "Winner". Foxx recently stated that he wants this track to play throughout the NBA season & I can't help but to think that it would be fitting. However, I think I'm still more partial to Jamie Foxx on ballads.
"Elevatas" is a tribute to The King of Pop & I'm loving it! Thicke's upcoming two-disc album, Sex Therapy, promises collaborations with Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, The Game & more. I can't wait to purchase it on December 15th.
Vivica A. Fox executes a wonderful performance as 50 Cent's deranged ex-lover in the "Do You Think About Me" music video. The video also features cameos from Tamala Jones & Tahiry Jose...Though this song may have to grow on me, I'm definitely loving the video.
In related 50 Cent news, check out his recent performances of "Baby by Me" & "Do You Think About Me" with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon.
Though I truly believe that the show's drama is staged, Keeping Up With the Kardashians has been one of my favorite reality shows for the past two years. With Khloe's marriage, Kourtney's pregnancy & Kim's burgeoning career I'm sure this season will be quite entertaining. The fourth season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians premieres this Sunday at 10 PM.
I'm also incredibly excited for Fantasia's reality television debut on VH1 next year! I was fortunate to attend a charity event at the singer's home in October & speak with her about the forthcoming docu-series (click HERE), which will follow her as she balances being a single mother with a flourishing music career. I'll definitely be tuning in! Fantasia For Real premieres on January 11, 2010 at 10 PM.
Not only did Kid Cudi recently return to Twitter (he left months ago due to negativity), he has also released a music video for "Pursuit of Happiness". Ironically, I've had Man on the Moon: The End of the Day on repeat for the past two weeks! This is definitely a hot video to accompany a hot song; love it.
Update: Kid Cudi just issued a statement, asserting that he does not have a Twitter account
Trey Songz also debuted the "One Love" music video yesterday via Twitter. Sadly, I've become accustomed to the hyper-sexual Trey that often sings about sex =p. But it is refreshing to see him in a different light. Nice showcase of his vocal capabilities on this single.
Seems like an ongoing theme this year has been putting Nicki Minaj on your single with another female rapper, as Gucci Mane did on "Sex in Crazy Places". Even though Gucci Mane isn't my favorite lyrically, I actually like this single. Trina & Nicki provide great contributions & Bobby Valentino is truly singing his heart out!
With all the buzz that Trey currently has, combined with Usher's recent efforts to maintain relevancy, this remix is perfect for both of them. Though Keri Hilson sounds lovely on the track, I think she should have left this one for the boys! All the sexual innuendos & lyrics on this track from Usher & Trey definitely makes your mind wonder...
Arguably the hottest female rapper on the scene right now, Nicki Minaj is prominently featured in the December/January issue of Complex Magazine. In her interview, the femcee discusses her stage persona vs. real life Nicki & her love life:
On her sexy image:
"This is the thing: I like being sexy when it's time to do a show, but to be honest, I hate wearing high heels, and I hate wearing anything tight. People do get taken aback when they see me in person because I'm in the jeans and the little slippers. I think it's cute when they see me transform, they see me go into my machine and come out as Nicki Minaj."
On her attire behind closed doors:
"Thigh-high boots or some real crazy pumps, some thongs, and curly hair, that's it. [Laughs.] Nothing else—nothing less, nothing more."
On her love life:
"I have no dating life, I can only hope and wish and imagine and fantasize. They demand too much. In life there's always going to be one thing that takes precedence, and when you're as hungry as I am you have tunnel vision. So I can't really cater to a dude right now—I love them and I think they're cute, but I can't do what they want me to do for them right now."
50 Cent released a teaser for the "Do You Think About Me" music video featuring his ex, Vivica A. Fox. The highly anticipated video for the single premieres on Tuesday at 8 pm on Thisis50.
Two of the standout tracks from Alicia Key's forthcoming Elements of Freedom album have been leaked online: "Put It on A Love Song" featuring Beyonce (click HERE to listen) appeared online recently to a disappointed fan base that expected much more from the long awaited duet.
"Unthinkable" also premiered online, which features subtle background vocals from Drake. With a beat reminiscent of a Kanye track on 808's & Heartbreak, I'm loving "Unthinkable" more than any of the other singles released from Elements of Freedom thus far.
Here is yet another single from Lil Wayne's upcoming Rebirth album. Produced by Cool & Dre, "Da Da Da" is auto-tune heavy & features Wayne doing a mixture of singing & rapping. While the song isn't terrible, it's definitely different from anything I've ever heard from the rapper.
