BRIX EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Fantasia

On October 15th, Fantasia Barrino, singer/songwriter & winner of American Idol (Season 3), hosted a dinner party at her home in Charlotte, NC in alliance with Macy's Feeding America campaign, which aims to raise money & awareness for the millions of Americans suffering from hunger. The overall event was a success & as an admirer of the North Carolina native since 2004, I was more than obliged to be in attendance.

All of my cohorts that had previously come in contact with Fantasia were adamant that she is extremely easygoing & humble. Now that I have met face to face with her, I could not have conceived a more courteous celebrity. Despite being barraged by the media & various guests at the event upon her arrival, she was optimistic & quite determined to grant me a thorough interview.

Aware that Fantasia is currently filming her reality television show for VH1, & that she recently reprised her role as Celie in The Color Purple, I wanted to inquire about her upcoming musical endeavors as well as what to expect from her in 2010. Check out the interview below:

JB: It's wonderful to have someone from North Carolina continue to have such an extraordinary amount of success. You have such a long list of achievements & continue to stay in the public eye. How do you continue to remain so humble despite your fame & popularity?

Fantasia: Well living in North Carolina has definitely helped me to stay grounded because I'm home! I also keep my family close so they'll let me know when I start feeling myself too much & get me right back on track! (
laughs)

JB: (
laughs) That's right! Now we know that you're currently in the process of filming a reality show for VH1. As someone that's followed you throughout the duration of your career, I'm definitely, definitely looking forward to it. What do we have to expect from your upcoming show?

Fantasia: Well, you know many people are familiar with my upbringing and my struggles. I just want people to see my progression and how far I've come, as well as my family dynasty. I want them to know that nothing can take away from what I've made for myself so far or how far that I have come. Nothing will break this dynasty, baby!

JB: That is wonderful! So I'm also aware that you recently reprised your role as Celie on recent stops of The Color Purple & also that you will play Celie in the movie adaptation of the play. What do we have to look forward to from you in 2010 in terms of music?

Fantasia: Girl I'm so glad that you asked that! (
laughs) It's coming, new music, new album, new show. In 2010, get ready, I will have my show premiering in early 2010 & new music as well. I am more than excited!

JB: I'm excited too! Thank you so much for the interview!

Fantasia: No problem baby!
